Cathie Wood was born and raised in Los Angeles. Then, graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science degree.
One of her college professors was Arthur Laffer — a prominent economist for the Regan administration — who became her mentor.
“LOOK FOR MENTORS THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO GROW. I THOUGHT I KNEW HOW THE WORLD WORKED WHEN WAS YOUNG, BUT I DIDN’T.” — WOOD ON THE IMPORTANCE OF MENTORS.
After working with Laffer, the ARK CEO went on to work for influential financial institutions such as Jennison Associates and AllianceBernstein.
Despite success in these roles, her passion for investing in new technologies was a point of contention.
“THE MODERN ASSET MANAGEMENT WORLD IS PLAYING IT SAFE WHICH IS A RISK. THAT’S NOT INVESTING IN MY WORLD. I FOCUS ON HOW THE WORLD IS GOING TO WORK. THE TRADITIONAL WORLD ORDER IS NOT GOING TO BE SAFE.”
As a result, Cathie Wood started the Ark Innovation Fund in 2014 which was the foundation of her $60 BILLION portfolio today.
